Convert camt.053 bank statements to Excel
A camt.053 file is your bank statement as ISO 20022 XML. Drop it here and every transaction lands in one table you can download as Excel or CSV.
Try it with your file:
Statements
| Account | Period | Opening | In | Out | Closing | Tx | Format |

Transactions
| Date | Amount | Counterparty | Description | Account |

What is a camt.053 file?
camt.053 (“bank-to-customer statement”) is the XML message banks use for end-of-day account statements under the ISO 20022 standard. It is gradually replacing the SWIFT MT940 text format. The related camt.052 is an intraday report and camt.054 a notification of individual debits or credits; they share the same structure.
The file is made for accounting software. Opened in a browser or in Excel’s XML import it shows deeply nested elements: statements, entries, transaction details, related parties and remittance information, which Excel flattens into repeated rows.
How to convert camt.053 to Excel
- Download your statements from online banking as camt.053 (sometimes called “ISO 20022 XML” or “CAMT”). A ZIP with several days works too.
- Drop the files above. Each statement is listed with its opening and closing balance, and every transaction appears in one table sorted by date.
- Click “Download Excel” for a workbook with a Transactions sheet and a Statements sheet, or “CSV: transactions”.
Where each column comes from
| camt.053 element | Column in the export |
|---|---|
| Ntry/BookgDt | Booking date |
| Ntry/ValDt | Value date |
| Ntry/Amt + CdtDbtInd | Amount (negative for DBIT) |
| TxDtls/RltdPties/Dbtr or Cdtr | Counterparty (payer for money in, payee for money out) |
| TxDtls/RltdPties/DbtrAcct or CdtrAcct | Counterparty IBAN |
| TxDtls/RmtInf/Ustrd | Remittance information |
| TxDtls/RmtInf/Strd/CdtrRefInf/Ref | Structured reference (RF, QR reference) |
| TxDtls/Refs/EndToEndId | End-to-end ID |
| TxDtls/Refs/MndtId | Mandate ID (direct debits) |
| BkTxCd | Bank transaction code |
| Ntry/AddtlNtryInf | Additional information |
| Stmt/Bal (OPBD, CLBD) | Opening and closing balance |
Batch bookings (one entry with several transactions, for example a salary run or a collection of direct debits) are split into one row per transaction when the bank gives each transaction its own amount.
Common bank transaction codes
| BkTxCd (domain-family-subfamily) | Meaning |
|---|---|
| PMNT-RCDT-ESCT | SEPA credit transfer received |
| PMNT-ICDT-ESCT | SEPA credit transfer sent |
| PMNT-RRCT-ESCT | SEPA instant credit transfer received |
| PMNT-RDDT-ESDD | SEPA direct debit charged to your account |
| PMNT-IDDT-ESDD | SEPA direct debit you collected |
| PMNT-CCRD-POSD | Card payment at a point of sale |
| PMNT-CCRD-CWDL | Cash withdrawal |
Balance check
For every statement the tool checks that opening balance + transactions = closing balance. If a file is incomplete or an entry was not read, the statement is flagged with ⚠ instead of silently giving you wrong totals.
Private by design
Bank statements are sensitive. The files are parsed by JavaScript in your browser and never uploaded, so no third party sees your transactions.
Questions
Which camt versions are supported?
camt.053, camt.052 and camt.054 in every version from .001.01 to .001.13, including the .001.08 layout where party names moved to Dbtr/Pty/Nm.
Can I convert several accounts at once?
Yes. Drop files from different accounts and banks; every row carries its account so you can filter or pivot by account.
Why is the amount negative?
Debits (CdtDbtInd = DBIT, money leaving the account) are exported as negative numbers, so a column sum gives the net movement.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded you can disconnect; ZIP and Excel export load a small library on first use.
